In the past Hot Runner Molds were used primarily for "Cosmetic Parts" which could
not stand the imperfections of cold runners and gates. Then, as technology evolved,
these molds gained acceptance in high cavitation tooling, generally running commodity
grade resins.
Today the Hot Runner Mold Technology has grown well beyond the "Insulated Runner." We
see applications for resins ranging from Polypropylene to LCP. There have been
developments in hot mold runners which are now allowing resins thought to be off limits to
be processed. ProMold - Gauer, Inc. has the experience to successfully bring this technology on
line.
An added benefit of runner-less molding is reduced cycle time. By delivering hot plastic
directly to the cavity impression, the need to plasticate a large dose to fill a cold runner
system is eliminated. This allows faster cycles and reduced energy consumption. In
seeking to further reduce energy consumption, the industry is looking at other
alternatives, including "Direct Contact" heating..low voltage heating..and electrical
